“Kill us! Our nation will awaken even more.” – Imam Khomeini (r)

Karbala, Iraq - July 15, 2013 – In the late afternoon on May 9, 2013, I received a series of text and voice messages asking me to confirm Malcolm Shabazz’ death. The ensuing hours and days are a blur. We came together as a community to bury, mourn and remember our fallen brother, tragically taken from us much too soon. We also witnessed a vicious character assassination in the media and within our own communities. I had been unable to articulate my feelings or place Malcolm’s life and death into context until reaching this land and the blessed tomb of the Master of Martyrs, the Chief of the youth of paradise, Imam Hussain ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (a).

Like many Americans and people of conscience, I grew up deeply inspired by Shaheed Malik Shabazz (“Malcolm X”). Shaheed Malik journeyed from the lowest depths of society to reach the lofty status of martyrdom. He did so by standing up for the oppressed and being uncompromising in his quest for truth. He was humble and sincere enough to admit his errors and always accept rational arguments. He accepted as much of the truth as he received, even at the cost of tremendous power and eventually his life. He was ruthlessly martyred in the presence of his wife and daughters because his existence was a threat. He will forever remain a symbol of incorruptibility, rational thinking and courage.

Afro-Mexicans on Hunger Strike to Protest Death of Malcolm X’s Grandson Print E-mail

Right now the eyes of the world are focused on two hunger strikes..One just kicked off in California at Pelican Bay with inmates, demanding improved conditions including an end to solitary confinement…Yesterday (July 8th) more than 30 thousand inmates refused food…

The other big hunger strike is the one in Guantanamo Bay which was started by detainees and has been going on for more than 100 days.. Yesterday Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def made a video where he demonstrated how striking prisoners were being force fed food. It was grueling and beyond disturbing. Yasiin because of the extreme pain, could not complete what detainees are forced to endure everyday.

There is a 3rd hunger strike that we should pay attention to…This one involves Afro-Mexicans in Mexico City who launched a hunger strike last week to protest the brutal slaying of Malcolm Shabbazz who was the grandson of Malcolm X.. Below is a video of the news report coming out of the DF.. Below that is a link to their blog explaining whats going on in their own words.. We took the liberty of translating two of the entries, but encourage folks to stay up to date

Letter of Thanks to supporters, friends and lovers of Malcolm Shabazz,

We would like to first send out thanks and much love to those of you all who sent money to the Hajj Malcolm Shabazz funeral fund that was on the internet. We are totally in awe of not only the response but how people donated from small amounts to large amounts. We can truly say that the "people" by the Grace of God buried young Malcolm. When we saw how people stepped up during such a hard time for Ms. Qubilah Shabazz and helped to bury her son it was a testament to the saying, by God's leave, that "Power is in the hands of the People".

We would also like to thank all of the different people and organizations that helped finance this funeral. There are too many names to mention and with fear of forgetting any individual we will refer to everyone in groups.

Settlers exhume graves, spray racist graffiti Print E-mail

NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Israeli settlers on Monday exhumed a number of graves and sprayed racist graffiti in the Sawiya village in Nablus, a Palestinian Authority official said.

Ghassan Daghlas, who heads the PA settlement activity file, said settlers from the Alia settlement were responsible for the damage.

He added that a plant nursery and two tractors, belonging to local Abdel Azziz Nasserallah, were also damaged in the attack.

The attack follows clashes on Saturday in the Burin village in Nablus, when dozens of settlers marched into the village.

One villager in Burin was slightly hurt in the hand by a stone and another passed out from tear gas fired by Israeli troops trying to separate the two groups, an AFP journalist said.

The military said that Israeli soldiers also fired rubber-coated bullets, lightly wounding a Palestinian who was given first aid on the spot.

Several weeks ago Oppression.org issued several tweets after finding out about the arrest of Malcolm Shabazz, the grandson of the great civil rights leader Malcolm X. Below is the official statement from Malcolm himself explaining what really happened. -Oppression.org

I sincerely appreciate the care & concern of the People over my well-being after Press TV's report of the most recent events which have transpired regarding the F.B.I.'s harassment of me.

Given the storm of lies, and half-truths that come with being associated with being the descendant of El Hajj Malik el Shabazz, also known as Minister Malcolm X, any and everything that I do; great or small, good or not so good, real or imagined is subject to controversy. However, in this missive I will take this opportunity to properly & fully disclose what transpired.

In the beginning of 2012 I had been informed that I was under investigation by the F.B.I.'s Counter Terrorism Task Force Unit located in Goshen, N.Y.

The agents of this division-and in collaboration with others-have visited several residences of which I was known by them to frequent. However, they would never come when they knew me to actually be there. They would leave their cards with the residents asking them to tell me to call them, and then would tell surrounding residents to observe the house and to notify them if they saw me.

Pilot reports spotting 'drone' over Brooklyn Print E-mail

Was there a drone flying over Brooklyn Monday afternoon?

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a report from a pilot of an Alitalia passenger jet who says he saw an unmanned aircraft while landing at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.

"We saw a drone, a drone aircraft," the pilot can be heard telling controllers on radio calls captured by the website LiveATC.net.

"The FAA is investigating a report... he saw a small, unmanned or remote-controlled aircraft while on final approach to Runway 31 Right," according a statement sent to CNN by FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown. "The sighting was approximately four to five miles west of the airport at an altitude of approximately 1,500 feet," she said.

That description puts the aircraft somewhere over Brooklyn and on the other side of the airport from where the plane was coming in for a landing.

Israel's force sterilization of African women Print E-mail

The racist Israeli regime and the US intentionally test a deadly banned birth control drug on Ethiopian women

"The drug that the people are using is Depo-Provera. It's being used on African American women by the Pfizer Corporation (the world's largest research-based pharmaceutical company). They know that it kills; they know that it sterilizes they know that it destroys people," said a member of the Dignity Human Rights and Peace Organization, Randy Short in an Interview with Reporters on Friday.

"It causes cancer, contributes to AIDS and Chlamydia (infection) and osteoporosis. It is illegal in Canada and in Europe, but it's being used all over Africa," he further added.

Recent reports show that the medium-term birth control drugs, banned in many countries due to their deadly side effects including death, are used by Ethiopian Jewish women living in Israel. The US government and the Pfizer Corporation also encourage Ethiopian women to use these drugs.

Drones and the hypocrisy of the US Government Print E-mail
Written by Oppression.org

Following letter will be read aloud before John Brennan's confirmation hearing for CIA Director Thursday, February 7, 2013 by members of CodePink.

Dear People of the United States,

The fall out to the unfortunate and devastating massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary has once again raised to the forefront the blatant hypocrisy of American politics. The discussions that dominated the evening news, talk shows and social media were regarding the responsibility of a society to protect its children. It is taken as a truth that the safety of innocent children should be a nonpartisan issue, with no place for politics. So what we must ask ourselves is: Is it only American children whose safety we should be concerned with?

If we as Americans cannot bear to witness the indiscriminate death of American children in American schools, how as members of the human race, do we allow our government to cluster bomb villages? How can we allow our government to use drones and drop payloads on top of foreign schools and homes, killing innocent and unsuspecting children. Do not the children of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Yemen bleed red like those who perished in the Sandy Hook massacre?

Why should our humanity be contained within the borders of the United States? Should we not treat others in a manner that we expect to be treated? Does the Golden Rule not apply to people and children living in foreign lands? So what if we don't share the same faith, same religion, same culture. Imam Ali, a seventh century Muslim caliph advised his governor in Egypt, "One is either your brother in faith or your brother in humanity."

How, as members of the human race, can our elected officials dare to wipe tears for innocent children killed on their own soil but have no remorse for innocent children killed by their drones? It is quite apparent that our government’s elected officials do not represent us. Instead, they are serving the interests of lobbies, large donors, and corporations. We can no longer remain silent while those in office pursue interests contradictory to human decency.  We must decide that we have had enough. We cannot sit silently while our President nominates a proponent of drones and “enhanced interrogation techniques” ie torture, for the position of CIA director.  We must allow our morality to rise above politics. We will not tolerate the murdering of innocent civilians in the guise of “collateral damage." We must hold our government accountable.

Sincerely,

Ali N.

Following is a letter written to the president of Brookly College, Karen L. Gould. Passage highlights and comments in red are from the author.

http://nadler.house.gov/press-release/progressive-brooklyn-and-citywide-elected-officials%E2%80%99-and-leaders%E2%80%99-letter-regarding

NEW YORK, NY – Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler and Councilman Brad Lander, joined by City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, NYC Comptroller John Liu, NYC Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, Borough President Marty Markowitz, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, State Senator Kevin Parker, State Senator Daniel Squadron, Assemblywoman Rhoda Jacobs, Assemblyman Karim Camara, Assemblyman James Brennan, Assemblywoman Joan Millman, Assemblyman Walter Mosley, Councilwoman Tish James, Councilman Steve Levin, and former Comptroller Bill Thompson, sent a letter to Brooklyn College President Karen Gould, urging withdrawal of the Political Science Department’s endorsement of an event entitled “BDS Movement Against Israel.”

“While students and professors must remain free to express their views, and engage in open and vigorous debate, we believe that when the institution decides to take sides and refuses to permit all voices to be heard, that is the antithesis of academic freedom,” wrote the elected officials.

Below is the full text of the letter:

January 31, 2013

President Karen L. Gould
Brooklyn College
2900 Bedford Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11210

Dear President Gould:

As progressive [sic] elected officials from Brooklyn and city-wide leaders, we are writing about the upcoming event sponsored by the Brooklyn College Political Science Department entitled “BDS Movement Against Israel.”  We collectively believe that the BDS movement is a wrongheaded and destructive one, and an obstacle to our collective hope for a peaceful two-state solution. [who elected them to decide Palestinians should submit to an apartheid solution?] These simplistic and one-sided approaches do a disservice to the cause of peace and stability by unfairly placing blame entirely on one side [yes, on the oppressor!], and by attempting to delegitimize one party on the world stage, and will do nothing to bring either party back to earnest negotiations [you mean the theater of the absurd staged just for show] or enhance a better understand of complexity of this conflict.  It is our understanding that at this event, a strategy of boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Israel will be encouraged, and there will be no counter-perspective offered [like the way the Zionists always ask for one of our speakers at their events!].

That said, we of course believe that students and academics should have the opportunity to openly express their views – however much we may disagree with them – and that universities have the responsibility to protect this important First Amendment right and the values of academic freedom.  We are, however, concerned that  an academic department has decided to formally endorse [a lie! sponsor, not endorse!] an event that advocates strongly for one side of a highly-charged issue,  and has rejected legitimate offers from prominent individuals willing to simultaneously present an alternative view.  By excluding alternative positions from an event they are sponsoring, the Political Science Department has actually stifled free speech by preventing honest, open debate.  Brooklyn College must stand firmly against this thwarting of academic freedom.

While students and professors must remain free to express their views, and engage in open and vigorous debate, we believe that when the institution decides to take sides and refuses to permit all voices to be heard, that is the antithesis of academic freedom.

We are calling for Brooklyn College’s Political Science Department to withdraw their endorsement of this event, rather than send the message to its students and to the world that the divisive perspective offered by the organizing groups is Brooklyn College’s official view.  In addition, we ask that you remain vigilant in ensuring that events bearing the official imprimatur of the College provide adequate opportunity for diverse perspectives to be heard.  We believe that this is the very hallmark of academic freedom.
